Welcome!

Welcome to The Crazy People Diaries! The purpose of this site is to share my very intersectional story as a Native American, transgender, schizophrenic man. I encourage you to check out the “about me” page so we can get acquainted. This is the first time I have ever blogged, so I’m still figuring things out. I think for this first post, I will give you a bit deeper of an “about me” type of thing.

I was born in Eugene, Oregon in the late 90’s. My younger sister was born in the early 2000’s. We lived in Eugene until my dad finished his doctorate at the University of Oregon in anthropology. (yes, my dad and I had the same college major) My mom was a stay-at-home mom, which I did not appreciate as a child, but I VERY much appreciate it as an adult. I give my parents major kudos to raising my sister and I on a graduate teacher’s salary. After dad graduated, he got a job at the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) in Rochester, New York. We moved east in 2004 and settled for the next ten years in Spencerport, New York. In 2014, when I was 15 years old, dad got a job at his alma mater as an assistant vice president. Much to my sister and I’s chagrin, we moved back to Eugene.

I spent the next two years finishing up high school in Eugene, skipping a grade and graduating a year early. I began college at the University of Oregon as a tuba performance major (yes, you read that right). After approximately two weeks of college, I changed majors, and would change majors one more time before settling on biological anthropology. I was miserable in college, in addition to the crippling dysphoria and anxiety that often comes with being trans. After beginning my physical transition in 2018, I dropped out and got a job as a caregiver in a memory care facility that was next door to my apartment. 8 months into that job, I was promoted to shift supervisor at 19 years old. To say the least, it did not go well.

After quitting that job with much fanfare, I picked up a job at Lane Forest Products, which was somehow worse than caregiving. I quickly decided that I needed to go back to school. After finishing my degree in 2022, I started grad school at Oregon State. I graduated in 2024 and got a job teaching at my alma mater. I packed up my belongings and my pets and moved back to Eugene from Corvallis into a much more spacious apartment.

My teaching contract for the 2025-26 school year was renewed, but after that, I will need to find another source of income, hence, this blog. Future posts will be more about gender and schizophrenia, but I thought I’d provide some context first.

Thank you for taking the time to get to know me! I’m so excited for future posts. 🙂
