Welcome back!
It’s been a while! I think I may have figured out a posting schedule for the Crazy People Diaries blog now that both of my full time jobs are picking up. Unfortunately I will not be posting as much as I was prior to starting my second job. BUT, I plan on doing at least 1-2 posts per week for both the paid and free versions of this blog, starting next Friday/Saturday. Regarding the paid version, I will be reducing the cost due to my limited posting schedule from $5/month to $2/month. (I need to figure out how to do that on the platform I use, but I promise I’m working on it.) With that being said, if there are any topics or questions you have for me, feel free to let me know! I’m always looking for ideas!
Life update time! My second job at the memory care facility has been going fairly well! I really like my coworkers and residents (people I take care of). I even have someone in the facility who shares a diagnosis with me, and they are a riot (in the best way possible)! I have truly grown to enjoy all of my residents, and it is an honor to have the opportunity to care for them. I am getting back into the rhythm of caregiving, and have even (somewhat) gotten my sleep schedule under control. I finally have shaken the feeling of having been awake for a month, and have not been punched in the face by an angry resident yet, which is nice. (although I did accidentally kneel in pee one time) Being that I now work in the healthcare/mental health field, and this is a mental health blog, I think I will start posting more about this job- obviously for HIPAA reasons, I cannot use real names or give any blatantly identifying information. But I’d love to share funny/gross/shocking stories, and observations about the mental health of the elderly population.
As far as my mental health goes, things have been pretty good on that front, too. I think I have finally figured out my medication, and have not had any major changes in the past few weeks, whereas before I was having almost weekly changes in medication. Seroquel- the antipsychotic I take daily, looks intimidating, but has really done wonders for my mental health. Recently, I had an intake session with a new therapist, and I immediately really liked her. I am very excited to begin yet another therapy journey. I think many of you can identify with the feeling of being unsure about a therapist, whether it will be a good fit, etc, but I have a good feeling about this one. We will be meeting weekly. This is the fifth therapist I’ve had so far over the past 7-10 years, and I’ve definitely had a few duds, but Emma seems like a great fit.
Recently, I decided to have my hormone doctor send a referral to OHSU for another gender-affirming surgery (may or may not share exactly what it is- it’s pretty personal stuff). My current nurse practitioner sent the letter of recommendation for it, and with my new therapist, I will be able to get the second letter sent in promptly- this surgery is pretty major so I need two letters from two different mental health professionals. I am also getting a new nurse practitioner, since the one I have been with for almost six years is moving out of state. I am a bit nervous about that, but I trust that they will hand me off to someone willing and capable. My last appointment with them will either be next week or the week after.
Anyway, stay tuned for more content! It’s good to be back.
